  5. headlines as a teenage pilot in May 1987 when he flew a Cessna
  6. 172 over 500 miles of Soviet territory to land at Moscow's Red
  7. Square; for an alleged assault on a student nurse; in Hamburg.
  8. According to police reports, Rust stabbed the nurse after she
  9. resisted his advances. He told interviewers this year that he
  10. chose civilian over military service because he was opposed to
  11. violence.
